Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest – First Movie Gets 2029 Release Date

The world of Westeros is heading to the big screen for the first time. Warner Bros. has scheduled “Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest” for theatrical release on June 6, 2029. The film will be directed by Owen Harris and written by Beau Willimon.

The Conquest of Westeros

The movie is expected to focus on Aegon I Targaryen, the founder of the Targaryen dynasty and the first Targaryen king of Westeros. The story takes place several centuries before the events of the original “Game of Thrones” series.

Aegon launched his conquest alongside his sisters and wives Visenya and Rhaenys Targaryen, using three legendary dragons: Balerion, Vhagar and Meraxes. After conquering most of Westeros, Aegon became the first king to rule the united Seven Kingdoms and established the dynasty that would dominate Westerosi history for generations.

The First Game of Thrones Movie

“Aegon’s Conquest” will be the first theatrical movie set in the Game of Thrones universe. Until now, the franchise has primarily expanded through television with “Game of Thrones,” “House of the Dragon” and “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.”

Owen Harris will direct the movie after working on “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” while Beau Willimon is responsible for the screenplay. Willimon previously created and served as showrunner of “House of Cards” and also worked as a writer on “Andor.”

Very little is known about the movie's plot so far, and the actor who will portray Aegon I has not yet been announced.

More Westeros Before 2029

Fans will not have to wait until 2029 for more Westeros. “House of the Dragon” has been renewed for a fourth season, while “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” has also received a second season.

The Targaryen story is therefore set to remain a major part of the franchise for years to come.
